five minute friday life and faith

enough: knowing we are more than enough in Christ

On days when we feel less than, it helps to recall how God has made us more than enough in Christ. By His grace, we can live a more than ordinary life, touched as we are with His sacred love and light.

We are more than we know, more than we see, more than we think or experience. With Holy Spirit taking up residence within, we are fully equipped to face anything this world may throw at us.

Though we don’t always feel strong, God’s word reminds us we are more than conquerors in Christ, far more than our current circumstances may suggest.

The poem below came out of a desire to live out this glorious truth, to be on fire for Christ when life makes us cringe and want to run away and hide.

More than enough

Sometimes I want to cry, ‘enough!’

when life’s pain becomes too much and all

I want to do is hide away

Though I can never escape your loving

touch—you, the Lord of abundance

where enough is superseded by such

lavish, extravagant love

You are a God of more than enough

and a Man of Sorrows who bore more

than we know for us on the cross, with arms

stretched wide—a spear in your side

When my love burns down to a flickering

flame, my faith is insufficient and

the eyes of my heart grow dim

may I remember how you willingly gave

everything to die for my sin; and may it

stir these cold embers within

into more than enough to live my life

as a witness to your love, as I learn

to speak freely, joyfully again and let

you shine bright like drops of rain

Happy to be a slow Saturday slider as I add my poetic words to fellow word-weavers offerings at the five-minute-friday link up being hosted at Kate Motaung’s site. This week’s prompt is ‘enough’ and you are warmly invited to join us here, and to read the great variety of words being shared.
